What it looks like

Tackling » Jockeying

How?

“Jockeying is a useful skill to have on the pitch. It’s nothing to do with horses, by the way. It is a way of holding up an opponent who has the ball without actually tackling them. To do this, stand between her and the rest of the game, legs comfortably apart and lively, using your feet to block her options for passing the ball. You can also use your body to block her view of the game, hindering her further.”

Why?

“Jockeying is a way of denying your opponent time and space, and it’s a good tactic to allow your team-mates to get back in position and find players to mark. In this way, you cut off the player’s options for passing the ball, often leaving her with no option but to attempt a pass or movement – then when she does, either you or one of your team mates will be in a good position to intervene.”
