What it looks like

Heading » Attacking header

How?

“Attacking headers are used for directing the ball downwards to score goals, win the ball in the air and to redirect the ball’s path, like in a pass. The key to attacking headers is to get the eyes over the ball, so that you are attacking the ball from above. To obtain power, the shoulders should be pushed forwards and the back arched before attacking the ball. The upper body should be kept in a straight line, not falling away to the side, and the neck muscles should be taught and strong. It’s important to enter into the header positively.”

Why?

Attacking headers are most often used for scoring goals, sometimes as a result of a corner kick. In order to improve your chances of scoring with a header, remember to get yourself above the ball and push forwards and down with your head and neck; that’s the only way of achieving a downward movement.
